Mattress Buying Guide: Which Type Of Mattress To Choose

When it comes to buying a new mattress, it is important to keep in mind several factors because a good quality mattress is essential for the quality of your night’s sleep. So, the stakes are high, and you should never buy a new mattress without doing previous research. Yes, choosing the perfect mattress takes time, and a good mattress is a sizable investment, but you shouldn’t overlook its importance. And you don’t need to do research about different mattresses types and their firmness instead of enjoying your hobbies, spending time with your family, or reading the casino blog on your own – just read in our brief buying guide which bed suits you in the best way based on your body weight, age, sleep position, and other key factors.

Almost all mattresses can be identified as mattresses made with metal wire springs or innerspring (open and continuous coil mattresses) or mattresses without metal wire springs. Open coil mattresses are made from wire springs that are looped together in one wire, and continuous coil mattresses, there are individual metal wires placed in special pockets. That’s why continuous coil mattresses are also called pocket spring mattresses. В зависимости от материала, mattresses without wire springs can be made of memory foam, latex, or a combination of different materials. Pocket spring mattresses are usually more expensive than open coil ones. The main difference between innerspring mattresses and other mattresses is that springs create slight vibrations when you turn on the surface. Springless fillings immediately dampen these vibrations. You should choose the type of mattress according to your personal preferences: whether you like the springy effect or not.

The other mattress types are the latex and memory foam mattresses, filled, as their name suggests, with latex or memory foam. Memory foam is molded to the shape of the body. Both memory foam and latex mattresses are good for allergic people. Hybrid mattresses are filled with a combination of materials including latex, memory foam, and coil-based support core. One of the parameters is the firmness level of the mattress, which shows how the mattress feels when you lie down on it. Different countries use different firmness scales for mattresses, and one of them is the 1-10 firmness scale: Mattresses of firmness levels 1-2 are extra soft and perfect for people under 130 pounds, and “extra firm” means that the mattress feels hard. Extra firm mattresses are best for back and side sleepers with weights over 230 pounds. Objectively, people with a large build and high weight need a firmer mattress to sleep on, as a softer mattress will deform excessively under the pressure of the body.

In this case, the choice will be determined only by subjective preferences. The weight and age of the person directly affect the choice of firmness, the higher the weight of the person, the harder the mattress should be. The choice of not optimal stiffness can lead to curvature of the spine during sleep, which can negatively affect health and well-being. Also, each mattress has a maximum allowable load, exceeding which can significantly reduce the life of the mattress.

Regardless of the firmness, the mattress should provide sufficient support for the spine of the sleeping person. Regardless of your sleeping habits (whether you sleep more on your back or your stomach), the mattress should ensure that the natural curvature of the spine is maintained. To check this point, make sure that there are no gaps between the body of the person lying down and the mattress.

In addition, it is important to choose the right height and size of the mattress. The comfortable height of the sleeping place from the floor is 50 cm on average. At this height are the knees of an average person who sits on the edge of the bed.  Note that quality mattresses with independent springs have a height of at least 18-19 cm. Anything less is budget options with thin filler. Don’t forget to measure the dimensions of the bed so that the mattress fits it perfectly!

Even if the type of mattress and its softness are critical factors to consider when buying a mattress, the most important thing is to find a mattress that feels right to you and try out some beds in your local mattress store. There can be no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to a mattress, but a mattress that feels right to you is essential for healthy sleep.
